Haru Japanese Festival in Saigon

I met a new cosplayer from Saigon recently on Facebook. I met up with her to buy a set of maid ears for a friend’s birthday and she told me to come to the Haru Festival this week to take photos. I’m glad I did because there was lots of great cosplay there. It’s something you don’t see much in Vietnam. Yi asked me “Why all young people ?” and I said “Well, in Vietnam when people get older they get jobs and families and stop doing silly things like cosplay. In other countries people might do it at an older age, but in Vietnam things like this are considered just for kids”. It’s a shame, but that’s how it is. There’s still a few oldies there as professionals and chaperones and I always go as a photographer, but even though Yi is young enough to fit in, she doesn’t. She hates cosplay. She thinks it’s the stupidest thing in the world hehehe. I suppose it is a fool’s pleasure from her perspective. But I at least had a great day despite the blistering heat getting tonnes of great photos and also some cool Totoro merchandise ! I’ll embed a few of my favourite photos and then link to the gallery.
